The Next Generation

About 4 years ago I painted up 1250 points worth of Space Marines as Crimson Fists.  With the release of the new codex my 1250 point list was somewhat short and I am adding in a scout squad and the Whirlwind I have on the blog.

3 years ago I started this squad to were I had 3 shotgun primed and base colours painted.  I have added 2 bolters to the squad as I wanted that something a little extra. It has been fun painted these guys up firstly because it has been so long since I painted Crimson Fists but secondly I couldnt find the paint scheme sheet I wrote up 4 years ago and right down to the base colours I have had to reproduce.

I think they turned out alright although I still have some little touch ups to do.

I have also found an old metal Thunderfire Cannon I had lying around I bought second hand and painted that one up too..

I have a whole new 1850 Crimson Fist list to build and paint now thank to the help of Dawson from Imperial Vox Cast and I am really looking forward to putting the old army and the new one together. My goal for 2014 is to add to my Crimson Fists and complete a total company... it should be fun :)

Whirlwind ready to undercoat

It is a nice feeling to be able to post more often that I have in such a long time.  I have contuined work on my Whirlwind and with only a little mistake I am not going to talk about it is ready for a black primer.

Now all I have to do is see if I even have a black primer as I have been using white of late and remember to attach the radar dish once I get enough painting done.

So broken down..
$15AU second hand Chaos Rhino
$30AU Whirlwind turret

GW whirlwind $83AU

Not counting the Simple Green as it was also used to strip back a heap of mini's as well.

Not to bad of an outcome...

The Chaos Rhino that would be a Space Marine Whirlwind

Its been far to long since I have posted here, in all the time since I have I got side tracked from my 13th Company working on my sons Blood Angels. since I have been so slack not posting up there progress here the link to the topic on the Imperial Vox Cast Forum is below.

Blood Angels 1500 Points

I have been having fun in that I bought a chaos rhino second hand at a convention I went to. I ripped off the top hatch, dozer blade and the spikey bits, ripped out the chaos marine with the twin linked bolter and took a razor saw to the missile launcher.

It wasnt in very good nick but I only paid $15 AU for it so I figured I couldnt go to wrong so I dumped it in simple green.  This left me with a for me fairly good starting point but after I cleaned it up for the tracks all I could salvage was a 1, 2 and 3 linked track piece. I used instanted mold to make multiple copies and cast them up.  So with all the track pieces I needed molded up all I had to do was glue them on.

Well they are not perfect but will do for me and I am a little happy with myself as I am not the greatest molder but I have to love instant mold.

So I glued in the spotlight, smoke launchers and now all I have to do is find some instructions on the construction of a whirlwind turret and I will be a happy hobbier.

More to come soon!

My 13th Company is underway

My 13th Company is underway and I am enjoying every minute of it. My Wolf Lord is completely constructed and so are the two Lord/Battle Leaders I have with him. I have also completed the construction on the first squad of 5 wolf brothers and a Wolf Guard. I am having a heavy Mark of the Wulfen list and I am still a little undecided about how these will be. I found a nice little tutorial about converting up some beastman heads and some green stuff which I will try for one or two of my Wulfen. My main thought is to mark the Wulfen models out with facial tattoos and I also want different degrees of Wulfen in the squads.
My Wolf Guard for the first squad I have completed is what I am starting to think of as his Lord Executioner. With a Frost Axe and Storm Bolter which I grabs off the Grey Knights makes him look way cool to me anyway.
I know I want a dark grey armour on these guys with the left shoulder pad being a red wolf head on a white back ground. I an not to sure still about the right shoulder pad as I am of two minds to unify them as one colour across the army or make them the herald colour of the Wolf Guard that leads them. Guess I will figure it out soon as I want to lay down the base colours soon.

13th Company

I am starting my 13th Company this month with the construction of my Thunder Wolf Lord being the first thing.

I guess it might be a little silly starting with a center piece of the army first but I have had the construction of this model in my head for so long I just had to get it on to the workshop bench.

He is with the two others well into construction with green stuff added from instant mold casts that I am happy with. I was really considering magnetizing the torso to the legs so I could swap them around but maybe I am just lazy so I will use no magnets with these guys.

I have a bear cloak to model up for my main Lord and I am going to instant mold the left shoulder pad for Ragnar’s symbol but paint the wolf head red with a white back ground. It should be a red wold head howling with a crescent moon behind but I guess I am a little scared of making up that pad to be moulded.
I will post up other pictures and try to keep this log updated.

CSM Complete

Well the army is complete.

I am happy with it in some ways and not in others. I think this is due to the fact I felt a little rushed as I think I am just getting old and slow with my hobby work.

But it does feel good to have my CSM up and running just have to hope they survive the next codex update :)

Almost done

It really has been a long time since I posted last. The IC hobby challenge is almost over and I haven't posted a single thing.

I will post up some more at the end of the month and then be back in the workshop after the IC challenge and into my 13th company.
